These workshops offers structured writing time each day, beginning promptly at a.m. All Dissertation Writing workshops are intended to provide participants with physical writing space, experts on call, and a community of like-minded peers so that they can make substantial progress on dissertation writing. Preference will be given to advanced doctoral candidates, particularly those planning to defend the dissertation in or prior to the 2018-2019 academic year.
Students are permitted to attend one intensive and one semester workshop.
If students plan to have non-NYU faculty on their committee, they must give the IFS student affairs coordinator a copy of the professor’s résumé at least 2 months prior to the dissertation defense, so the external member can be approved. The on-line packet outlines the procedures and deadlines for preliminary and final submission of the dissertation, including necessary forms, payment, typography and pagination.
Students should be aware that GSAS deadlines precede University deadlines.
A preliminary draft must be submitted approximately 6-8 weeks before the graduation date.
The final document will be submitted during the month of graduation.
Participants will have an assigned writing space (power connections, wireless access, and basic office supplies) for writing during each of the workshops. Most of the time in the workshops will be devoted to writing.
A faculty convener will be present for individual and group consultation.
