It can be very frustrating without the help of skilled math teachers to guide students with probing questions toward math problem-solving.Do they plan to work themselves to get the understanding to achieve the answer? The students can develop their plan by using some of these strategies.A visual aid, showing patterns, may help the students use logical reasoning to assist in eliminating possibilities.It develops and builds a 'math toolbox.' The students would be able to look inside their math toolbox and select the plan(s) that would be best to approach those math problems.The students should review their checklist above to make sure that they have included everything in their math plan implementation.Check the student's understanding of what the problem is asking by having them read and reread the problem, describe the problem in their own words, visualize the problem, identify goals in solving the problem, identify information, use appropriate resources, and recognize any conditions or assumptions.Have they made it their own plan and taken responsibility to complete the problem successfully?You can simplify and evaluate expressions, factor/multiply polynomials, combine expressions.You can solve all problems from the basic math section plus solving simple equations, inequalities and coordinate plane problems.Individual guidance to take them through a critical thinking process is key to helping them synthesize the necessary math skills needed to be successful in their approach to problem-solving.There are many approaches to solving math problems.
