Line breaks don’t really exist when it comes to song lyrics so that whole level of tension, surprise, and musicality just doesn’t tend to translate. So maybe song lyrics are actually truer to the tradition. Spoken word poets have done so much incredible work to bring poetry to people outside the academy, to people craving poetry.
