There are, however, other reasons for citing references in scientific research papers.

Citations to appropriate sources show that you've done your homework and are aware of the background and context into which your work fits, and they help lend validity to your arguments.

In MLA style, referring to the works of others in your text is done by using what is known as parenthetical citation.

This method involves placing relevant source information in parentheses after a quote or a paraphrase.

Put short titles of books in italics and short titles of articles in quotation marks.
