Truman Capote, as a grown man, took advantage of his vivid memories and composed the short work, "A Christmas Memory." The story begins in late November, a month symbolic of all the years gone by that Capote could remember beginning preparations for Christmas fruitcakes.

The year he has chosen, though, is that of the last Christmas three friends spend together.

This story teaches readers to value their relationships with one another and to notice the little, special things in everyday life.

In the short story "A Christmas Memory," Capote displays style and two of the recurring themes, memory and reminiscence, and friendship among social outcasts to reminisce the life of a young boy and his older cousin's cherished bond.

My second vivid memory of Christmas relates to a television advertisement that I saw on television for the Sears: Wish Book, the store's annual Christmas catalog.

That's all I really needed until I stumbled upon a Christmas special on television entitled A Charlie Brown Christmas. I really don't think I cared too much, being a young child caught up in all the excitement. I must have been four or five years old at the time, I can't remember for sure, but I don't think I had started kindergarten yet. Perhaps this is the reason why, every year, my family and me try to spend our holiday at our grandma's place. So, every year, we all step into the car and try not to think at the long road that we have in f...My cousins are running laps around the den while playing tag and laughing throughout the house. Then I hear a voice say to me " Come give Granny a big hug." As I come toward her I see an antique smile painted gracefully across her face. We sit and talk about my wanting to come to her house for a much needed visit. As I open the door and step into the house, the smell of different Christmas odors surrounds me and makes my mouth water.I hear voices laughing , talking, and inquiring who's at the door.
