(Salinger, 21) The way the hat looks, makes Holden different from the people around him, making him a lonely person, which brings a bigger issue, Holden's desire to be left alone and the fact that he needs someone to understand him and be his friend.

It was also one of the few books that I was actually able to finish.
I was able to read into this book very well, and I noticed a lot of the symbolism, which helped write this essay.
I think that is one of the strengths of this piece, because I was really happy when I saw all the connections, and it all started to come together.
I was really satisfied with the content, although I didn't really like the length, although it looks so much smaller on the web!
These symbols help to story to develop better and they also give a lot of insight to reader about what the main character is feeling.
While Holden is wandering around New York City, he asks many people about what happens to the ducks in the pond when it freezes. He isnt really wondering about the ducks, he is wondering about himself. The other two symbols, Jane Gallagher and the Museum of Natural History, both represent the theme of the past.Jane Gallagher was an old friend of Holdens, and he mentions her many times during the story.Even though it is just a patch of it, Holden often uses it to his advantage when he wants to be seen as an adult, like when he is at clubs trying to order alcohol or he is trying to talk to women, but at the end, it does not turn out to be what he had expected.Other symbols included in "The Catcher in the Rye" are ducks in the lagoon in Central Park and the racing skates are important to the development of the story. They all represent Holden in a way, and Salinger uses these symbols very well. Three major symbols were the ducks, the Museum of Natural History, and Jane Gallagher. The racing skates also have a symbolic meaning, the racing skates Holden wanted may be perceived as a way to get away from life and start from scratch one more time.Besides the ducks in the lagoon and the racing skates, Allie's baseball glove and the Museum of Natural History are considerably important to Holden. A perfectly reasonable pub, though the decor's a bit bland. The Museum of Natural History represents a different aspect of his past. While Jane Gallagher makes Holden want to return to his past, the Museum of Natural History sort of changes his mind.
